Bible Reading in 2010

Statistical research shows that less than 10% of professing Christians have ever read the entire Bible. Thus, the church as a whole is Biblically illiterate! Which side of the statistic do you fall on?

In my walk I have seen that going through the entire Bible systematically with a plan is the best way to read the Bible. Now I could go through several reasons for why this approach to reading the Bible is beneficial in the life of a believer, but I am putting this post up for those that are already convinced that they need to be better students of the Word.

I think college is the time in you life where you will really have the most time in your hands with the least responsibility. In your 4-6 years here you can really dive into the Word of God. Take advantage of it while you can. I pray and hope that by the time you leave college and XA, that you have at least read through the Bible once, if not more.

Here are some Bible reading plans to get you started for 2010. Don't be intimidated. Be realistic and pick one that you can really accomplish this year. Click on the links to check out the plans.

Beginner:
Read the New Testament in One Year :: Less than 1 chapter and about 6-8 min/day. Great for beginners who haven't ever read the Bible

Intermediate:
Read NT in 6 months :: Approx 10-15 mins, 1-2 Chapters a day

Bible in 1 year :: Approx 20 mins a day :: Approx 4 chapters a day from OT and NT daily. Keeps the reading fresh.

Advanced:
Read the Bible in 6 Months:: Approx 35-45 mins a day :: About 7 chapters a day from different sections of the Bible

52 Week Bible Reading Plan :: Approx 20-25 mins a day :: Read from 1 of 7 different sections of the Bible on each day of the week. Good if you really want a richness in your daily reading.

Robert Murray McCheyne Bible Reading Plan :: Approx 5 chapter a day for 30 mins :: Read through the OT once a year and NT 2 times a year

Great post. It is a sad but true statement that most of the church barely knows the Word of God. This is why so many people will fall away from the faith.

Reading through the entire has revolutionized my walk with the Lord since I started doing this back in 2004. I usually read both the OT and NT at the same time in the order of the canon.

I can't function without my spiritual food, my daily portion of manna. Nobody can walk in victory over the flesh without the Bible.

I would recommend thinking of the Bible not just as a single book, but a library of 66 books which combine to be the written inerrant Word of God. It makes it seem less daunting.
